{"id":88162,"date":"2014-05-23T16:11:57","date_gmt":"2014-05-23T20:11:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/?p=88162"},"modified":"2014-05-23T16:11:57","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T20:11:57","slug":"257-west-29th-chelsea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/news\/257-west-29th-chelsea","title":{"rendered":"Chelsea housing facility to rise at 257 West 29th Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 id='pressboard-ad-sponsorship-tag' style='margin-bottom: 35px;'><\/h4><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2014\/05\/257-west-29th-chelsea.html\/257-west-29th\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-88163\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88163\" alt=\"257 West 29th\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/257-West-29th.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ariel Aufgang is designing a new 14-story building at 257 West 29th Street in Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p>Located between Seventh and Eighth avenues, the 24,480-square-foot community facility will have 37 units total, according to the plan exam application filed in <a href=\"http:\/\/a810-bisweb.nyc.gov\/bisweb\/JobsQueryByNumberServlet?requestid=5&#038;passjobnumber=121330130&#038;passdocnumber=01\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">February 2013<\/a>. The developer is The Arker Companies.<\/p>\n<p>The site was formerly occupied by a four-story mixed-use building, owned by Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos. Measuring approximately 6,000 square feet, the structure had three apartments and a ground-floor 70-seat jewel box theater for Imperioli&#8217;s theater company, Studio Dante. Imperioli bought the property for $2.4 million in 2007 and sold it for $4.15 million in 2010, <a href=\"http:\/\/therealdeal.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/26\/imperioli-sells-chelsea-theater-space\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">The Real Deal<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The buyer, 257 West 29th Street LLC, then <a href=\"http:\/\/a810-bisweb.nyc.gov\/bisweb\/JobsQueryByNumberServlet?requestid=5&#038;passjobnumber=120709206&#038;passdocnumber=01\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">filed plans in 2011<\/a> to expand the building by two floors and convert it to a hotel. The plans were disapproved.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/a810-bisweb.nyc.gov\/bisweb\/JobsQueryByNumberServlet?requestid=5&amp;passjobnumber=121445196&amp;passdocnumber=01\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">December 2012<\/a>, 257 West 29th Street LLC filed to demolish the building. Then in February 2013, the Arker Companies acquired the property for $6.25 million, and later that year, the structure was razed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/portfolio.aufgang.com\/west_29th.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">Aufgang&#8217;s site<\/a> indicates that the new building will be a supportive housing facility. &#8220;Our dedication to providing quality homes for the most needy is reflected in the very detailed, intricate brick and stone design,&#8221; the project description reads.<\/p>\n<p>On-site construction signage says that the project will be completed in Summer 2015.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2014\/05\/257-west-29th-chelsea.html\/257-west-29th-sign\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-88164\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88164\" alt=\"257 West 29th sign\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/257-West-29th-sign.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"1066\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2014\/05\/257-west-29th-chelsea.html\/257-west-29th-interior\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-88165\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
