New renderings are up for Red Hook factory conversion 202 Coffey Street.<\/p>\n

AA Studio (formerly Adjmi & Andreoli) was tapped to redesign the desolate building into a creative complex with art studios and gallery space. Yesterday, the architectural firm’s Facebook page<\/a> posted fresh renderings of the project.<\/p>\n

Milan-based developer Est4te Four purchased the 130,000-square-foot factory for $11.8 million in 2012, the New York Observer<\/a> reported. Est4te Four’s Alessandro Cajrati Crivelli told the Observer that he planned to restore the dilapidated 1889 complex to its 19th-century glory.<\/p>\n

The property used to be a production warehouse for designer women’s purses, according to the Est4te Four website<\/a>. The existing structure has wooden trusses and ceiling heights up to 55 feet. The architects will free up a central courtyard that was covered with concrete and steel in the 1950s, and they will unseal original brick windows that were obscured with concrete blocks.<\/p>\n

You know what’s\u00a0not<\/em> obscured, though? The new glass building on the lot, as shown below:<\/p>\n

The developer’s site explains that “the new project includes an eight-story corner building that is contemporary, but reflects the industrial characteristics of the existing buildings.” Here’s an aerial shot of the whole shebang:<\/p>\n
