When Gene and Amy Cross started shopping for floorplans, they had some specifications in mind. Top among them was the desire to have a lot of flex space that would allow them to have multifunctional rooms, making their dream home adaptable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe envisioned how to use each room to its fullest potential,\u201d they said. \u201cA theatre room with velvet curtains and sconces, a VR gaming room, a second-story library, and a dedicated guest suite for my parents. Oh, and the outdoor master shower coming off the pool\/lake.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They trolled the Internet, hoping to catch the floorplans that matched their ambition, but came up short. Then they landed the big catch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThanks to houseplans.com<\/a>, we found Zonda\u2019s amazing concept home plan with the Frank Lloyd Wright influence that was so important to us,\u201d they said. \u201cWe quickly agreed that your Plan 1087-1<\/a> was \u2018It\u2019 and bought the plan immediately, presenting it to our team who loved it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan 1087-1 wasn\u2019t just a generic house plan buried deep in the site\u2019s vast archive. It\u2019s the 2024 Virtual Concept Home by Livabl,<\/a> a labor of love developed in partnership with\u202fBassenian | Lagoni architects<\/a>,\u202fCDC Designs<\/a>,\u202fSMP Environmental landscape designs<\/a>; leading builders\u202fShea Homes<\/a>,\u202fMattamy Homes<\/a>,\u202fNew Home Co.<\/a>,\u202fThrive Home Builders<\/a>, and\u202fDavidson Communities<\/a>; sponsors\u202fJELD-WEN<\/a>, the\u202fPropane Education & Research Council (PERC)<\/a>,\u202fTrex<\/a>,\u202fSchneider Electric<\/a>,\u202fJames Hardie<\/a>, and\u202fKohler<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI call the house a chameleon because it truly can adapt itself based on the user\u2019s needs at a snapshot in time,\u201d said Dave Kosco, director of design at Bassenian Lagoni. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house was built with flexibility in mind and was designed to be built, not as a futuristic concept that would never see the light of day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not a 7,000-square-foot home of the future with bells and whistles that most consumers can\u2019t afford or access,\u201d says Livabl\u2019s<\/a> Karyn Bonder. \u201cIt\u2019s a home with a lot of flex space. It\u2019s roughly 2,300 square feet, but it can get a little smaller or bigger depending on what the buyer profile needs.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s no longer about a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home. Instead, it\u2019s more about a primary bedroom, a primary bathroom, and eight to 12 flex spaces. Those areas range from a nursery, retreat, secondary bedroom, game room, or home office. This home has a lot of flex space for today\u2019s buyer\u2019s needs.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While builders have built concept homes in the past, they traditionally took a lot of time and money to develop because they were being built in the \u201creal world.\u201d Using proprietary technology provided by Zonda Virtual<\/a>, teams were able to create an entirely virtual home that can be viewed online in a web browser or through virtual reality goggles in an entirely immersible environment. Buyers can make real-time changes while they are touring the space, making instant changes that would be impossible without the help of technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe quality, ingenuity of the design is perfect. We would love to personally thank the architect and design team,\u201d the couple said. \u201cWe have been visiting many property sites in the southernmost Appalachian foothills of western Georgia this winter. Winter is a terrible time to shop for land, but we saw the opportunity to use this time when the trees are bare, the nearby roadways are viewable, and the land is easiest to walk.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
