And the news wasn\u2019t good when it came to Arizona, which has the third-smallest lot size in the nation at 8,726.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s hard to visualize \u2013 but that\u2019s about the size of two NBA basketball courts. So, you\u2019re not exactly pressing up against your neighbours. But you will get to know them whether you want to or not.<\/p>\n<p>The only other states with smaller average lot sizes are California and Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>If you really want to find quiet, Vermont has the largest lots at almost 79,000 square feet. That\u2019s a lot of basketball courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral factors can dictate how large the average plot of residential land is in a certain state,\u201d according to Angi. \u201cIn many parts of the country, strict zoning laws establish minimum lot sizes meant to accommodate essential infrastructure in rural areas like septic tanks or drinking wells.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The national average cost per square foot is $50.
