<\/a>Rendering:\u00a0Waterway Common at Lakeview Village Aerial View looking West by Cicada Design Inc., courtesy of Lakeview Community Partners Limited.<\/em><\/p>\nLakeview Village<\/a>, a \u200b\u200b177-acre mixed-use community slated for Mississauga\u2019s waterfront, has been recognized for its sustainable development.<\/p>\n Lakeview Community Partners Limited (LCPL) announced this week that the project has received the Award of Excellence for Sustainable Development at the 2022 National Urban Design Awards.<\/p>\n \u201cOn behalf of LCPL and the incredible team behind the project, it is an honour to receive this designation as we work to transform a place that harmed the lakeshore ecosystem through industrial pollution into a sustainable, future-ready community,\u201d said Brian Sutherland, vice-president of development at Argo Development Corporation<\/a> and the development lead for Lakeview Village, in a press release.<\/p>\n\n \u201cThis award represents our approach and big picture thinking with Lakeview Village, which is to bring one of the world\u2019s most sustainable waterfront communities to the shores of Mississauga,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The National Urban Design Awards \u2014 which are presented by The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects \u2014 recognizes the contributions of individuals, projects and firms who enhance quality of life and sustainability through urban design.<\/p>\n Lakeview Village was provided the Award of Excellence in Sustainable Development for its \u201coutstanding commitment to sustainability within the urban context.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe proposed reduction in energy consumption centred around wastewater heat recovery and a district level energy plant is commendable,\u201d said the award jury\u2019s comments about Lakeview Village in the release. \u201cThe \u201815-minute city\u2019 is walkable and socially sustainable, and the myriad of practical, proven green technologies all come together to make this a model for future sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n Lakeview Village\u2019s \u201815-minute city\u2019 design is said to incorporate sustainable modes of transit, along with a network of parks and trails for residents. Technologies that reduce energy consumption and a sustainability centre that will \u201cpropel the next generation of sustainable innovation locally,\u201d are also a part of the future community. According to the jury\u2019s comments, Lakeview Village will incorporate greywater use, rainwater harvesting, stormwater reuse and permeable paving in its design.<\/p>\n Lakeview Village was greenlit<\/a> by the City of Mississauga in November 2021. Located south of Lakeshore Road East near Hydro Road, the community will be constructed on the former coal-powered Lakeview Power Generating Station. Thousands of new residences, plus new commercial and employment facilities will be built, including 67 acres of waterfront lands and 27 acres of parkland. The planning process for Lakeview Village started in 2010. Construction is expected to begin this fall.<\/p>\n LCPL is a partnership of several builders, including TACC Construction Limited<\/a>, Greenpark Group<\/a>, CCI Development Group<\/a>, Branthaven<\/a> and Argo Development Corporation.
