<\/a>Rendering: Cicada Design Inc., courtesy\u00a0of Lakeview Community Partners Limited<\/em><\/p>\nA major mixed-use development slated for Mississauga\u2019s waterfront community received approval from city councillors last week, pushing the 177-acre project another step ahead.<\/p>\n
On Monday, November 8th, Lakeview Village<\/a> was granted draft plan and official plan amendment approval, in addition to zoning by-law endorsement, at a public planning and development committee meeting. The plans were then given formal consent two days later in the City of Mississauga\u2019s council chamber, according to a press release issued by the development team<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n Thanks to the approvals, the development partners can now move forward with building the future community<\/a> which will deliver thousands of new residences, parkland and commercial space south of Lakeshore Road East near Hydro Road.<\/p>\n \u201cThe DPA, OPA approval and ZBL endorsement is a landmark achievement for Lakeview Village and everyone that has worked tirelessly to bring this development to the Mississauga waterfront,\u201d said Brian Sutherland, vice president of development at Argo Development Corporation and the development lead for Lakeview Village.<\/p>\n \u201cWe can\u2019t thank the City of Mississauga council members enough for confirming the community\u2019s support of, and trust in, this project,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Lakeview Community Partners Limited (LCPL), the group of builders who are developing the project, consists of TACC Construction Limited<\/a>, Greenpark Group<\/a>, CCI Development Group<\/a>, Branthaven<\/a> and Argo Development Corporation.<\/a><\/p>\n The planning process for Lakeview Village began in 2010 with the Inspiration Lakeview visioning process, following the citizen-driven Lakeview Legacy Project which initially peaked community interest in the site’s revitalization. The first draft of the Lakeview Village master plan was submitted in October 2018, and has evolved over the development\u2019s multi-year timeline.<\/p>\n Built on the site of the former coal-powered Lakeview Power Generating Station, Lakeview Village will consist of 8,050 residential units, 400 of which would be for affordable housing. Up to 1.5 million square feet of employment space would be created to provide 9,000 jobs, plus 180,000 square feet of commercial facilities and a village square.<\/p>\n In addition to 5.5 kilometres of new bike lanes and a new waterfront trail connection, Lakeview Village will lend 67 acres of waterfront lands and 27 acres of parkland. East of the development, Lakeview Village is building a 64-acre conservation area in partnership with several stakeholders as tribute to late Councillor Jim Tovey who helped to shape the new vision for Lakeview Village.<\/p>\n Lakeview Village will comprise a number of districts, inclusive of a Cultural Waterfront precinct with pedestrian-friendly spaces and an Innovation Corridor designed for educational and employment uses.<\/p>\n During the next phase of the development, LCPL will follow Mississauga\u2019s subdivision engineering process and submit site plan applications for individual blocks within Lakeview Village.
