<\/a>Image: Google Maps Streetview<\/em><\/p>\nLocation: 3070 Ellesmere Road, Scarborough<\/em> Future Centennial College and UTSC students may have a brand new apartment building to call home if a rental tower proposal on Ellesmere Road moves forward.<\/p>\n In late January, plans were submitted<\/a> to city planners to build a 26-storey rental tower with 265 units at 3070 Ellesmere Road in Scarborough.<\/p>\n The proposed development site is located on the northeast corner of Ellesmere Road and Mornelle Court, just west of Morningside Avenue. Spanning 56,600 square feet, the lot is currently vacant. Previously, it was used as a waste disposal site in the 1950s and 1960s, then a commercial office building in the 1970s, which was later demolished in 2005. Two post-secondary school campuses are located on the eastern side of the Ellesmere Road and Morningside Avenue intersection near the lot.<\/p>\n\n \u201cThe building, located close to both the Centennial College and University of Toronto campuses, will be designed primarily to serve students,\u201d says the planning rationale authored by Bousfields Inc.<\/p>\n If approved, the new 26-storey rental apartment building would include a four-storey base and 4,311 square feet of ground-floor retail space across 262,090 square feet of gross floor area.<\/p>\n Architectural drawings of the high-rise show that a shared indoor amenity and lobby area would be located in the southeast corner of the building, adjacent to the retail unit and a 4,984-square-foot outdoor amenity space. A 174-square-foot indoor amenity area overlooking a green roof would be constructed on the fifth floor. Approximately 15,360 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity space would be provided throughout the tower.<\/p>\n
