{"id":212880,"date":"2021-01-27T16:26:12","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T21:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/?p=212880"},"modified":"2021-01-27T16:26:12","modified_gmt":"2021-01-27T21:26:12","slug":"toronto-new-public-park-port-lands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/news\/toronto-new-public-park-port-lands","title":{"rendered":"Toronto is getting a new park and public beach in the Port Lands"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 id='pressboard-ad-sponsorship-tag' style='margin-bottom: 35px;'><\/h4><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/LESLIE-SLIP_VIEW1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[212880]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212884\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/LESLIE-SLIP_VIEW1.jpg\" alt=\"LESLIE SLIP_VIEW1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Torontonians are getting a brand new east end park with its own public beach, forested dunes and a 360-degree viewing platform.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the new Leslie Slip Lookout Park in Toronto\u2019s Port Lands were announced today by the City and CreateTO, the agency that manages the City of Toronto\u2019s portfolio of real estate assets.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dy6DT6CuiRo\" width=\"660\" height=\"415\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>\u201cThe creation of Leslie Slip Lookout Park on Toronto\u2019s eastern waterfront is something that residents and tourists from across the city and beyond will be able to enjoy for years to come,\u201d said Mayor John Tory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new destination will offer year-round programs including pop-up events, concerts and public art, and will give people the opportunity to enjoy time outdoors while exploring an area of the city they might not have before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/LESLIE-SLIP_Lookout.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[212880]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212883\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/LESLIE-SLIP_Lookout.jpg\" alt=\"LESLIE SLIP_Lookout\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1053\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Located at 12 Leslie Street, along the Martin Goodman Trail, the 1.9-acre greenspace will feature a public beach surrounded by grassy, forested dunes that will create a new multi-use destination in Toronto\u2019s east end. The park will include a viewing platform complete with sweeping views of the Port Lands, adjacent shipping channel and the Toronto skyline beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Port Lands of Toronto hold a rich history and landscape,\u201d said Toronto-Danforth Councillor Paula Fletcher. \u201cRevitalizing this underutilized land will bring this site back into public use, beautify the landscape and complement the natural heritage system of the Port Lands, creating a stronger connection between the city and the natural areas south of Unwin Avenue and Tommy Thompson Park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Montreal-based landscape architectural firm Claude Cormier + Associ\u00e9s (CC+A) was selected through a design competition to construct the park.
