Classes at California State University at Northridge will be held mostly online next semester, but eventually, the students will return and searches for off-campus housing will resume again. In a few years\u2019 time, Matadors could have another option for modern apartment living \u2014 a proposed five-story residence with indoor and outdoor amenities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plans were filed<\/span><\/a> this week with Los Angeles City Planning for the construction of a boxy mid-rise with 51 apartments in one- and two-bedroom configurations. The developer is listed as an LLC bearing the same name as the address, 8940 Reseda Boulevard, and the design was conceived by G.A. Engineering, Inc<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Five units would be set aside for extremely low-income tenants in exchange for Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) incentives, including a height increase and reduced side and rear yard setbacks. The apartments would range from 550 to 1,180 square feet and more than half would boast private balconies.<\/p>\n

Architectural drawings<\/span><\/a> showcase a central courtyard with landscaping and plentiful seating, an indoor community room and fitness center, plus a fifth-floor deck with alfresco dining areas and a barbecue. There would be 72 vehicle and 49 bicycle parking spaces spread throughout subterranean and ground-floor garage levels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The building\u2019s exterior would be clad in eggshell, light gray, dark gray and earth tone-colored stucco with a plaster finish. Wood siding would be used as an accent to add texture and the recessed balconies would feature contemporary metal railings.<\/p>\n

If approved, the proposed apartment building would replace a single-story commercial building, which is currently used as a pediatric care office. Future residents would be able to walk to the Cal State Northridge campus in ten minutes, shop for groceries at the nearby Vons, or grab dinner from one of the many fast-casual restaurants lining Reseda Boulevard.<\/p>\n
