<\/a>Photo: James Bombales<\/em><\/p>\nProperty.ca CEO Carl Langschmidt has resigned after publishing offensive comments from his personal Facebook account.<\/p>\n
The Toronto-based brokerage announced Langschmidt\u2019s resignation in a company-wide email last night.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe past weeks have been filled with real turmoil, as many of us have had our eyes opened to the realities faced by Black people every day. Please rest assured that we stand by our vision of being a place where everybody can feel like they belong,\u201d the email reads.<\/p>\n
The email offers an apology and goes on to say that the company\u2019s response to \u201churtful and inappropriate comments shared on social media is overdue.\u201d While the comments were not from an official Property.ca account, the company acknowledged Langschmidt could be seen as speaking for the company due to his high profile leadership role in the organization.<\/p>\n
Langschmidt has resigned from his role as CEO and is no longer employed by Property.ca, according to the email.<\/p>\n
While the email does not explicitly note what social media posts led to the resignation, Langschmidt had posted multiple times in a long comment thread responding to a Facebook post from a Toronto realtor that encouraged support for Black-owned businesses.<\/p>\n
