The 16-storey structure features a playful, wave-like facade inspired by its waterfront location. In designing the project, architects carefully considered neighbouring buildings and streets, while optimizing sunlight and water views for its residents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Aqualuna2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201601\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Aqualuna2.jpg\" alt=\"Aqualuna2\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This can be seen in the building\u2019s shape and form, which consists of two peaks separated by a valley, which houses the development\u2019s shared amenities. By shifting the peaks apart, the design creates enough space to maximize waterfront views from each unit. The 16-storey building was designed by starchitect Bjarke Ingels and pays homage to Moshe Safdie\u2019s iconic Habitat 67 in Montreal by using stepped, terraced apartments with glass-brick facades and vertical gardens.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/KingToronto2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201603\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/KingToronto2.jpg\" alt=\"KingToronto2\" width=\"1620\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Applying the \u2018Gesamtkunstwerk\u2019 philosophy \u2014 a German word that translates as \u2018total work of art\u2019 \u2014 King Toronto will also feature lively pedestrian zones with new retail, hospitality and workspaces, along with courtyards and pathways lined with public art.<\/p>\n<h2>3. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/forma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mirvish+Gehry Toronto<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MirvishGehry.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201591\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MirvishGehry.jpg\" alt=\"Mirvish+Gehry\" width=\"1200\" height=\"654\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Developer(s):<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/great-gulf\">Great Gulf<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Architect(s):<\/strong> Gehry International Inc.<br \/>\n<strong>Neighbourhood:<\/strong> Entertainment District<\/p>\n<p>As the name suggests, Mirvish+Gehry Toronto is a collaboration between two Canadian heavyweights \u2014 theatre-maven David Mirvish and starchitect Frank Gehry. The ambitious project was initially proposed back in 2012 and has since been acquired by Toronto developer Great Gulf.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MirvishGehry2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201602\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MirvishGehry2.jpg\" alt=\"Mirvish+Gehry2\" width=\"870\" height=\"793\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Situated at King Street West and Duncan Street, the mixed-use development consists of two \u2018supertall\u2019 towers rising 301 and 329 metres tall, separated by a pair of decorative canopies along Duncan Street. The master plan includes the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Princess of Wales Theatre and the facade of the heritage Anderson Building at 284 King Street West. Located south of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, in the Deer Park neighbourhood, 1 Delisle Ave Condos is arguably the area\u2019s most anticipated and design-forward new development. Slate Asset Management partnered with Chicago-based architecture firm Studio Gang, who designed the famous 82-storey, wave-like, <a href=\"https:\/\/studiogang.com\/project\/aqua-tower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Aqua Tower<\/a> in downtown Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1delisleave2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1delisleave2.jpg\" alt=\"1delisleave2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Led by founding principal and founder Jeanne Gang, the architectural team behind 1 Delisle designed a 48-storey tower with a honeycomb patterned facade that wraps around a circular floor plate. The podium will also incorporate and restore the 1920s-era, Art Deco facade of the existing building on site, creating new retail opportunities at street level.<\/p>\n<h2>5. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/the-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The One<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/TheOne.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201596\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/TheOne.jpg\" alt=\"TheOne\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1078\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Developer(s):<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/mizrahi-developments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mizrahi Developments<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Architect(s):<\/strong> Foster + Partners and CORE Architects<br \/>\n<strong>Neighbourhood:<\/strong> Yorkville<\/p>\n<p>Although it has already lost its status as Canada\u2019s tallest condo building to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2020\/02\/canadas-tallest-condo-tower-preparing-launch-sales-toronto.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge<\/a>, The One is sure to be a jewel in the Toronto skyline when it\u2019s completed in 2023. Designed by the award-winning British architectural firm Foster + Partners, the development uses advanced structural engineering and innovative design techniques.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/TheOne2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[201582]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/TheOne2.jpg\" alt=\"TheOne2\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The most visible of which, is an exoskeleton consisting of an exterior casing made up of bronze diagonal trusses that climb up the length of the building, providing much of the structural support. The design allows for light-filled retail spaces reminiscent of international flagship stores in New York City, Chicago, London and Paris.
