<\/a><\/p>\nRendering:\u00a0Tyler + Kelly Architecture<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n On February 25th, the Pasadena Design Commission will present their feedback on <\/span>231 North Hill Avenue<\/span>, a proposed four-story, 58-unit single room occupancy (SRO) development. Last November, the City Planning Commission voted in favor of recommending that City Council reduce its current size and zoning regulations to bring more affordable apartments to the area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The development by Hill & Holliston LLC will occupy a vacant lot that was formerly used as a railroad right-of-way for the now-defunct San Gabriel Valley Railroad. Designed by <\/span>Tyler + Kelly Architecture<\/span><\/a>, the project will feature two masses linked together by an outdoor courtyard with a pool and spa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Rendering:\u00a0Tyler + Kelly Architecture<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n The Mediterranean-style structure also calls for partial subterranean parking and additional amenities like a gym\/yoga studio, lounge and dual lobbies. A quarter of the micro-units, which will each measure about 220 square feet, will be reserved for affordable housing. One unit will be occupied by an onsite manager and the rest will be rented at market-rate.<\/p>\n Situated at 226 North Holliston Avenue and 231 North Hill Avenue, the project touts a Walk Score of 84, which ranks as a \u2018Very Walkable\u2019 community. Future residents will be able to complete daily errands at the nearby Ralphs or Target, or pick up dinner at a number of fast-casual eateries. The Pasadena Playhouse District is a 20-minute stroll from the development, home to theatres, museums, art galleries, independent retailers and coffee shops.<\/p>\n Rendering:\u00a0Tyler + Kelly Architecture<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n The <\/span>staff recommendations<\/span><\/a> made by the Design Commission indicate that the North Hill Avenue project will soon advance to the Final Design Review stage.
