The design has changed quite a bit since the project by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tribune Real Estate Holdings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was first proposed in October 2016, evolving from a 30-story building with 107 residential units, office space and ground-floor retail to a now 56-story building that will bring 680 residential units, including 45 reserved for Workforce Housing, and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Planning Commission approved and adopted a number of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/planning.lacity.org\/odocument\/e6c2f387-2ec3-4a52-b3b1-0a2175f939e3\/CPC-2016-3808.pdf\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recommended actions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, but a change to the district\u2019s zoning requirements must be ratified by City Council before the project is greenlit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/full-height-min.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[200149]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-200151\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/full-height-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"516\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>222 West 2nd Street will feature 188 studios, 259 one-bedroom units and 233 two-bedroom units, some of which will offer private outdoor space in the form of balconies or terraces. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/architect\/solomon-cordwell-buenz-architecture\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Solomon Cordwell Buenz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">-designed building will also boast amenity spaces on the 11th and 39th floors, including a swimming pool and spa, outdoor lounge and barbecue areas, grassy lawn, fitness center, and indoor entertainment areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/public-space-min.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[200149]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-200152\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/public-space-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1695\" height=\"981\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ground floor will offer a spacious lobby and public paseo, complete with outdoor seating, bike parking and lush landscaping, connecting pedestrians with the Metro plaza that surrounds the new 2nd St.\/Broadway subway station. If all goes according to plan, construction of the sleek glass tower could kick off in 2022. The project will likely take three years to complete.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/podium-min.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[200149]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-200153\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/podium-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"595\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">222 West 2nd Street<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is located at 2nd Street and South Broadway, a stone\u2019s throw from Grand Central Market and the iconic Bradbury Building. The neighborhood is dotted with diverse eateries, hip watering holes and live music venues.
