Even renting in the Lower Mainland is a stretch for a lot of young people. Once you take housing costs off the top, there isn\u2019t a lot left over for other obligations,\u201d says Tracey Arnish, Chief Member and Employee Experience Officer at Insights West, in a statement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The survey results are from an online poll conducted in April 2018 among 820 BC adults. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Older British Columbians (aged 30-plus) share the same sentiment as young people, as 86 per cent believe it is virtually impossible for young people to buy a house today in BC. <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"see-more-link\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"See Also\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/themes\/livabl\/images\/see-also-cta-icon.svg\"\/>\r\n          <strong><span>SEE ALSO:<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2018\/06\/expert-vancouver-condo-price-relief.html?utm_source=internal&amp;utm_medium=see%20also&amp;utm_campaign=This%20expert%20says%20Vancouver%20condo%20price%20relief%20%E2%80%9Ccould%20be%20on%20the%20way%E2%80%9D%20see%20also\"  area-label=\"This expert says Vancouver condo price relief \u201ccould be on the way\u201d\">This expert says Vancouver condo price relief \u201ccould be on the way\u201d<\/a><\/strong>\r\n        <\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, older British Columbians are not as open to moving, with only 33 per cent answering that they are thinking about relocating. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c[I]t is clear young people in the province feel somewhat challenged by their current financial situation, and struggle to be better positioned for the future in a way that older residents do not,\u201d reads the report. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A majority (52 per cent) of young British Columbians say they are strapped for cash and are not saving for the future. In addition, 24 per cent of these young adults are living pay cheque to pay cheque.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In comparison, the survey revealed that 41 per cent of British Columbians aged 30-plus are financially constrained, with 16 per cent living pay cheque to pay cheque. <\/span><\/p>\n<div
