To put the still-in-demand segment into perspective, BuzzBuzzNews has rounded up five charts from the past half year.<\/p>\n<h2>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/economics.bmocapitalmarkets.com\/economics\/amcharts\/N3331B-3Y1J6X-01R140-F4HZNV-620.pdf\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">Home construction hit an all-time high in Ontario in Q2<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/toronto-condo-construction.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[168932]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-168936\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/toronto-condo-construction-1024x730.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"730\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s going on here:<\/strong> The number of homes under construction each quarter in Ontario over the past half century.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The takeaway:<\/strong> In this year\u2019s second quarter, contractors were working on more homes than in any quarter in recorded history, largely due to major condo projects in Toronto. \u201cThis is a solid amount of building that should fully meet demographic demand,\u201d writes BMO Senior Economist Robert Kavcic.<\/p>\n<h2>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2017\/06\/toronto-luxury-rents-among-fastest-rising-world.html\">Toronto luxury high-rise rents among the fastest rising in the world<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/knight-frank-luxury-rental.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[168932]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-168938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/knight-frank-luxury-rental.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"889\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s going on here:<\/strong> Knight Frank compares luxury rents in 17 upscale markets during Q1. The UK-based consultancy generally considers a luxury rent to be in the top 5 per cent of a market by value, and Toronto\u2019s index is based on two-bedroom condo and purpose-built apartment rents of this calibre.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The takeaway:<\/strong> Toronto placed fourth, and here\u2019s why: \u201cAs the population of Toronto continues to grow, the demand for rental apartments also continues to grow,\u201d Taimur Khan, a senior research analyst at Knight Frank, tells BuzzBuzzNews. \u201cThe supply of rental apartments has not kept up with demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>3. Toronto condo prices based on what subway station they\u2019re closest to<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/subway-map-condo.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[168932]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-168939\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/subway-map-condo-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s going on here:<\/strong> Using precise GPS coordinates, The Red Pin maps average condo prices from May for resale one-bedroom condos within 2 kilometres of each of Toronto\u2019s subway stations, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogto.com\/city\/2017\/06\/new-map-tracks-toronto-home-prices-subway-station\/\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">BlogTO reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The takeaway:<\/strong>\u00a0If you\u2019re looking for an affordable home in Toronto these days, you may want to check out condos in Scarborough, particularly those near the Kennedy and Lawrence East TTC stations.<\/p>\n<h2>4. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2017\/06\/why-torontos-condo-market-is-still-booming.html\">Toronto\u2019s condo market shows signs of resilience<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/condo-prices-toronto.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[168932]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-168941\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/condo-prices-toronto-1024x758.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"758\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s going on here:<\/strong> BMO charts year-over-year increases in the GTA condo market each month based on the Canadian Real Estate Association\u2019s MLS Home Price Index.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The takeaway:<\/strong>\u00a0In the first full month of sales activity after Ontario announced its Fair Housing Plan, Toronto\u2019s condo market wasn\u2019t hit as hard as low-rise segments were.
