{"id":167193,"date":"2017-06-15T10:06:12","date_gmt":"2017-06-15T14:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/?p=167193"},"modified":"2017-06-15T16:44:50","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T20:44:50","slug":"then-and-now-photo-tour-torontos-king-street-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/news\/then-and-now-photo-tour-torontos-king-street-west","title":{"rendered":"Take this then-and-now photo tour of Toronto&#8217;s King Street West"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 id='pressboard-ad-sponsorship-tag' style='margin-bottom: 35px;'><\/h4><p>By the late 1830s, King Street was Toronto&#8217;s undisputed main east-west commercial thoroughfare.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half of last century, other major roads could already make a claim for that title, but that doesn&#8217;t mean King Street calmed down.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, when the 72-storey First Canadian Place was completed at the corner of Bay and King Street West in 1975, no building on Earth outside of New York City and Chicago was taller.
