Lady Willie Forbus was one of the first women to practice law in Seattle and the first to represent the 44th District in the state senate. A resident of Magnolia, she was nicknamed the Steel Magnolia for her tenacious advocacy of children’s rights and equal opportunity for women. A single mother for many of her years in the senate, Lady Willie was a former board member of the Friends of Discovery Park.
