<\/a><\/p>\nRendering: Bjarke Ingels Group<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n The Isenberg School of Management at UMass\u00a0Amherst currently looks like any old university complex, but it won’t be long before that changes. Bjarke Ingels Group<\/a> has signed on to complete a major addition to\u00a0the top-ranked business school, and\u00a0once it’s finished the site promises to be one of the campus’ most interesting areas.<\/p>\n Copenhagen- and New York-based Bjarke Ingels Group is working on the $62-million project\u00a0with\u00a0Boston architecture firm Goody Clancy. It’s the first major update to\u00a0the Isenberg School of Management since 2002, and the aim<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0to give it “an exciting new visual identity.”<\/p>\n Rendering: Bjarke Ingels Group<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Based on the renderings released so far, we think the architects are\u00a0on track to achieve that goal.\u00a0Their plan is for a new building\u00a0to extend an existing Isenberg School of Management building to the north and east. The new building\u00a0will offer access to\u00a0the old\u00a0building in two different spots, and will add\u00a070,000 square feet of classrooms, labs and student-facing spaces to the complex.<\/p>\n The new building’s\u00a0donut-like shape will also leave space for a 5,000-square-foot central\u00a0courtyard\u00a0that will serve as a cultural hub and event center. Covered with incrementally sloping\u00a0panels, it will have an exterior unlike any other building on the UMass Amherst campus.
