<\/a><\/p>\nRendering: <\/span>Capitol Hill Housing<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n The Liberty Bank Building<\/a>, a mixed-use development proposed for\u00a0Seattle’s Central District, may take the final step in the design review process this week. Last week, community members weighed in on its\u00a0proposed design<\/a>, and the next part of the process is to get approval from the city.<\/span><\/p>\n Non-profit developer\u00a0Capitol Hill Housing<\/a> (CHH) is behind the project, along with partners\u00a0Africatown, Black Community Impact Alliance and Centerstone. Together, they are\u00a0working to create a space that will be empowering for the black community, and have released an\u00a0eight-part Memorandum of Understanding<\/a> laying out how they intend to do that. They hope the Liberty Bank Building\u00a0will ultimately become a template that shows\u00a0how inclusive development can work in\u00a0communities.<\/p>\n The new building will be built on the site of the former Liberty Bank<\/a>, the first bank west of the Mississippi to focus on the black community. It will\u00a0<\/span>have four commercial spaces, as well as 115 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. Units\u00a0will be available at 30 to 60 percent of the area median income, and r<\/span>esidents will have access to a rooftop terrace, workroom and lounge. The plans also call for 18 residential parking spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n
