Those traveling to\u00a0Seattle had plenty to choose from \u2014 with its picturesque streets and beautiful water and mountain views, it\u00a0was the perfect subject for artists. According to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.historylink.org\/File\/2950\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HistoryLink<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it had\u00a0bathrooms with\u00a0marble stalls, brass fixtures, oak chairs, white-tiled walls and terrazzo floors. The totem pole, whose top carving is a raven, was made\u00a0to honor a woman named Chief-of-All-Women who drowned in the Nass River while on a journey to visit an ailing sister.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A federal grand jury in Alaska indicted the thieves for theft of government property, but due to rampant cronyism, the thieves were never punished and the totem pole was never returned. Chittenden Locks (better known as the Ballard Locks) and complete waterway opened to boat traffic on May 8th, 1917. Hiram M. Notable closures took place during\u00a0the Columbus Day storm of 1962 and during the\u00a0\u201cInauguration Day\u201d storm of 1993, when winds reached 90 miles per hour.
