If you tuned into last week\u2019s Made by Google event \u2014 or have been on the internet since then \u2014 you\u2019ve probably heard about Pixel, Google\u2019s answer to the iPhone. What you may have missed is the news that <\/span>Google Home<\/span><\/a> is now on sale for $130. We don\u2019t blame you for the oversight, but we do think you should get caught up, and fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google describes Google Home as a voice-activated speaker that\u2019s powered by Google Assistant, the company\u2019s new AI platform. What does that mean in layman\u2019s terms? Basically Google Home will be able to answer your burning questions, play your music and manage your schedule. It\u2019ll also be able to sync up with your other smart devices \u2014\u00a0think Chromecast and Nest \u2014 so you\u2019ll be able to adjust your home\u2019s temperature or lighting with your voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not impressed? Much of Google Home\u2019s appeal seems to lie in the details. For example, it\u00a0can tell the difference between a human voice and background noise, meaning that it\u00a0can hear you even when you\u2019re blasting music. Google Home can also determine context \u2014 if you ask a question about a song you\u2019re currently playing, it will understand that you\u2019re talking about that song. Pretty neat!<\/span><\/p>\n
