The City of Oakland has a huge backlog when it comes to infrastructure improvements \u2014\u00a0$450 million worth of work<\/a>, to be exact.<\/p>\n

To address the issue, Measure KK<\/a>\u00a0will be on the ballot in the city’s November general election.\u00a0Formerly known as the Infrastructure Bond, or the I Bond, Measure KK\u00a0\u201cwill ask voters to decide if Oakland should invest up to $600 million in safe streets and sidewalks, city facilities, and anti-displacement and housing efforts.\u201d A majority of two-thirds will be necessary for a win.<\/p>\n

While that may sound positive, some Oakland residents are concerned. Homeowners will be paying for the improvements, and some\u00a0are worried that they will not see their money put to use where they live. The City of Oakland has so far offered no guarantees.<\/p>\n

Even so, Measure KK has plenty of backers,\u00a0many of whom have suggested that\u00a0given Oakland’s booming real estate market, now is the ideal time for the measure to pass.\u00a0Unsurprisingly, Christopher Kidd, Oakland\u2019s senior transportation planner, is in full support of Measure KK:<\/span><\/p>\n
