When it opened in 1914,\u00a0Smith Tower\u00a0in Seattle was the fourth-tallest building in the world. Now its\u00a0owners have given\u00a0it a new distinction by making it the home of\u00a0a unique Prohibition-themed experience for tourists and locals alike.<\/p>\n

Unico Properties acquired Smith Tower for\u00a0$73.7 million<\/a>\u00a0in 2015, double the historic building’s previous 2012 sale price. The company then enlisted Graham Baba Architects, the firm behind\u00a0fancy food-related projects Melrose Market and Chophouse Row,\u00a0to give\u00a0Smith Tower a memorable makeover.<\/p>\n

Renovations are\u00a0now complete, and starting August\u00a025th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0visitors will be able to\u00a0take a self-guided “Legends of Smith Tower<\/a>” tour of the space. Highlights include an observation deck on the 35th story that offers\u00a0spectacular 360-degree views of the city, and a speakeasy-style restaurant called Temperance on the same floor. Delights will include banh mi sandwiches, a raw oyster bar and Prohibition-inspired craft cocktails.<\/p>\n

If you’re visiting later this year, you’ll be able to check out “The Bootleg King,”\u00a0an additional interactive tour experience coming in the\u00a0winter. This tour will tell the entertaining story of Roy Olmstead<\/a>, the youngest and most promising lieutenant on the Seattle police force until\u00a0he was caught bootlegging whiskey and fired. He then became\u00a0a professional bootlegger and before long was making more in one week<\/span><\/span> than he would have earned in 20\u00a0years<\/span><\/span> as a policeman.<\/p>\n

Special clues on “The Bootleg King” tour will unlock additional mysteries and exclusive access to secret drinks for all ages at\u00a0the Temperance restaurant. Fun!<\/p>\n
