Drugs, crime and prostitution exploded, but the city also became a hub for counterculture groups and the LGBT community. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Dirty Harry&#8221; enthusiasts should have felt lucky for living there at the time, while the tallest skyscraper in the city to this day, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Transamerica_Pyramid\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transamerica Pyramid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was constructed in 1972. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a peek below into how the city by the bay looked up to 46 years ago. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Ocean Beach\u2019s Playland Funhouse, 1972<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/san-francisco-1-compressed.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[149263]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-149264\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/san-francisco-1-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"san francisco 1-compressed\" width=\"512\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photo: <\/span><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/outsidelands.org\/images\/wnp4\/wnp4.0956.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[149263]\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outside Lands<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Known as Chutes at the Beach until 1913, Playland was an amusement park along Ocean Beach with attractions such as Fun House (pictured).
