Currently being taken down brick by brick, some portions will be reconstructed as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/the-lakeshore-condos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Lakeshore Condos<\/a> by developer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/concord-adex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concord Adex<\/a>. Once complete, it\u2019ll bring a touch of the Art Deco period to a glass-and-steel 876-unit community \u2014 and house a Loblaws grocery store.<\/p>\n<h2>Pinnacle Adelaide\/Richard West House<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-RWH1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-RWH1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-RWH1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"842\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-RWH2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-RWH2.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-RWH2\" width=\"1280\" height=\"896\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 104 John Street<br \/>\nDate: 1869<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been quite a journey for the Richard West House, which today is the site of retail. Relocated from its former site at the corner of John and Adelaide streets while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/the-pinnacle-on-adelaide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pinnacle on Adelaide<\/a> condos were going up, the 19th-century digs were carefully taken to a new home just a ways down John Street by builder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/pinnacle-international\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pinnacle International<\/a>. Current property owner Hullmark Developments enlisted Quadrangle Architects to take on a reno-expansion of the historic brick-and-mortar structure, and in November 2014 it relaunched as office and retail space. The structure, which dates back to the turn of the 20th century, gained some sleek modern additions along the way.<\/p>\n<h2>FIVE Condos\/Rawlinson Cartage<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-FIVE1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-FIVE1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-FIVE1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-FIVE2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143316\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-FIVE2.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-FIVE2\" width=\"1280\" height=\"881\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 5 St. Joseph Street<br \/>\nDate: 1905<\/p>\n<p>A Gothic Revival brick building that dates back to 1905 is transitioning from warehouse to entryway. Though much of the structure at 5 St. Joseph has been absorbed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/five-condos-at-5-st-joseph\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FIVE Condos<\/a>, a 48-storey tower from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graywood Developments Ltd.<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/mod-developments-inc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MOD Developments Inc.<\/a>, the facade remains and will greet future residents once the community opens its doors later this year. A row of retail buildings has also been preserved.<\/p>\n<h2>St. James Cathedral Centre<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-StJamesCathedralCentre1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143317\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-StJamesCathedralCentre1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-StJamesCathedralCentre1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 65 Church Street<br \/>\nDate: 1909<\/p>\n<p>The architectsAlliance-led reimagining of St. James\u2019 Parish House may seem a sharp departure from the adjacent cathedral\u2019s Gothic Revival styling, but the firm played off of subtle elements to create fluidity. \u201cThe characteristic light, airy interiors of neo-Gothic architecture find modern expression in the highly transparent addition, which conducts daylight deep into the core of the renovated and expanded parish house,\u201d according to the firm\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<h2>The Grange\/Art Gallery of Ontario<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-Grange1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143318\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-Grange1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_Grange1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"884\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-5053.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143319\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-5053.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_Grange2.jpg\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 317 Dundas Street West<br \/>\nDate: 1817<\/p>\n<p>The Grange is one of the oldest buildings you\u2019ll find in Toronto (though it narrowly missed out on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/2015\/02\/oldest-buildings-in-toronto.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our round up<\/a>). Initially the opulent dwelling of one D\u2019Arcy Boulton, who had it built in 1817, after staying in the family for a period, it became the Art Museum of Toronto\u2019s first location. Since the early 1900s, however, it\u2019s been tied to the Art Gallery of Ontario. Most recently, Frank Gehry provided the old manor with a striking backdrop of blue titanium and a coiled steel staircase through his dramatic AGO redesign.<\/p>\n<h2>Bloor-Gladstone Library<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-BloorGladstoneLib1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-BloorGladstoneLib1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_BloorGladstoneLib1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"876\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 1101 Bloor Street West<br \/>\nDate: 1913<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not often that the words library and modern come up in the same sentence \u2014 even some atheneums\u2019 computer labs are dated \u2014 but the latter applies to this century-old learning centre\u2019s 2006-2009 renovation, spearheaded by Rounthwaite, Dick and Hadley Architects inc, Shoalts and Zaback, and ERA.<\/p>\n<h2>Bisha Hotel and Condos\/George Crookshank House<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-Bisha.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143321\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-Bisha.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-Bisha\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 56 Blue Jays Way<br \/>\nDate: 1834<\/p>\n<p>You could say the 19th-century George Crookshank House is undergoing a growth spurt. The squat brick heritage structure is now the base of the 44-storey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/bisha-hotel-and-residences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bisha Hotel and Residences<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/lifetime-developments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lifetime Developments<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/ink-entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">INK Entertainment<\/a>, due to open later this year.<\/p>\n<h2>East United Condos\/Charles Brown and Co. Stables<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-EastUnited1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143323\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-EastUnited1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-EastUnited1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"834\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-5617.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143324\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-5617.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-EastUnited2\" width=\"1280\" height=\"894\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 95 Berkeley Street, Toronto<br \/>\nDate: 1906<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/east-united-condos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">East United Condos<\/a>, a 21-storey condo project from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/signature-communities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SigNature Communities<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/berkshire-axis-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berkshire Axis Development<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/andiel-homes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andiel Homes<\/a>, isn\u2019t expected to be complete until 2018, but one component has been around much longer. The Christie, Brown &amp; Co. Stables, which was constructed in 1906, makes up part of the Podium for East United.<\/p>\n<h2>1 Yorkville<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-1Yorkville1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143325\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-1Yorkville1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_1Yorkville1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"866\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-1Yorkville2-compressed.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-1Yorkville2-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_1Yorkville2-compressed\" width=\"1280\" height=\"845\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 1 Yorkville Avenue<br \/>\nDate: 1855-1892<\/p>\n<p>A short stretch of Victorian storefronts along the Mink Mile are being maintained as construction on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/1-yorkville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1 Yorkville<\/a>, a condo from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/bazis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bazis Inc.<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/plaza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plaza<\/a>, continues. When the 58-storey tower is complete, these historic shops will once again join the lux retail strip on the Bloor West streetscape.<\/p>\n<h2>New Broadview Hotel<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-BroadviewHotel.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-BroadviewHotel.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_BroadviewHotel\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 106 Broadview Ave, Toronto, ON<br \/>\nDate: 1893<\/p>\n<p>Since the New Broadview House Hotel changed hands in 2014 and plans for redevelopment began to take shape, the rebranding has been subtle: it\u2019s now simply called The New Broadview Hotel. But the building, most recently a boarding house and strip club, will likely serve very different needs soon, though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/streetcar-developments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Streetcar Developments<\/a> has yet to reveal its future plans for the site.<\/p>\n<h2>King + Condos \/ National Hotel<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-King-1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143328\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-King-1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_King+1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 37 Sherbourne Street, Toronto<br \/>\nDate: 1850s<\/p>\n<p>The north and west facades of The National Hotel at King and Sherbourne, meanwhile, now anchor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/toronto-on\/king-plus-condos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">King + Condos<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/plus-development-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plus Development Group<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/builder\/terracomm-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Terracomm Development<\/a>. Originally, the plan had been to raze the site, but pushback led to an altered proposal.<\/p>\n<h2>Tip Top Lofts<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-TipTop1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-TipTop1.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-TipTop1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-TipTop2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-TipTop2.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-TipTop2\" width=\"1280\" height=\"834\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 637 Lake Shore Blvd W<br \/>\nDate: 1929<\/p>\n<p>Another example of architectsAlliance\u2019s handiwork, the Tip Top Tailors Building \u2014 previously the centre of operations for the clothier it\u2019s named after \u2014 was transformed into condos after conglomerate Dylex Limited sold the site in the early 2000s. The rechristened Tip Top Lofts condo development features original signage set askew and placed atop six additional storeys that gel with the original Art Deco design.<\/p>\n<h2>King Blue Condos\/The Canadian Westinghouse Building<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-KingBlue1-compressed.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143334\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-KingBlue1-compressed.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings_KingBlue1\" width=\"1280\" height=\"860\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-KingBlue2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[143306]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-143335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/JPbombales-KingBlue2.jpg\" alt=\"HeritageBuildings-KingBlue2\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Location: 355 King Street W.<br \/>\nDate: 1927<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Westinghouse Building is itself an example of incorporating an structure in a new design. Its top three storeys are actually 1934-1935 additions to the original three-storey warehouse, erected in 1927.
