The X-ed up structure topped out in March 2014, <a href=\"http:\/\/ny.curbed.com\/archives\/2014\/03\/31\/170_amsterdam_tops_out_high_rents_push_out_bronxites.php\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">Curbed<\/a> reported. Designed by Handel Architects, the development&#8217;s facade is cross-hatched with support beams made of reinforced concrete, for an exoskeleton effect. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.6sqft.com\/170-amsterdam-avenue-nycs-first-concrete-diagrid-nears-completion\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">6sqft<\/a> points out that the project will be the first residential building in the city with a concrete &#8220;diagrid&#8221; structural system. The exoskeleton minimizes the need for internal supports, allowing for more interior space where columns would normally be. <\/p>\n<p>170 Amsterdam will open in April, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.equityapartments.com\/developments\/newyork\/170amsterdam\/170amsterdam.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">developer&#8217;s site<\/a>. Interiors will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, wood flooring, quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. Amenities will include a 24\/7 concierge service, rooftop terrace, lobby lounge overlooking a private garden, gym, yoga room, private dining room and children&#8217;s playroom.<\/p>\n<p>The 20,700-square-foot site had been stalled before Chicago-based Equity Residential took over in 2011, the <a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2011\/09\/28\/all-eyes-on-amsterdam-ave\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\">New York Post<\/a> reported. The firm signed a 99-year lease for $76.5 million, with the intention of building a tower with approximately 230 apartments and 8,500 square feet of retail. <\/p>\n<p>Construction shots from this
