Just over a month after raising $40 million in Series B financing, Oakland-based construction technology company Mighty Buildings has landed a multi-unit residential development deal.
Developer Palari Group will use 3D-printed panels by Mighty Buildings to construct 15 three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes in Rancho Mirage, a resort town outside of Palm Springs. The community, known as Palari Villas, will be the first of its kind in the United States.
Starting at $595,000, each 1,440-square-foot residence will occupy a 10,000-square-foot lot with a private backyard and swimming pool. The Mighty Cinco floorplan boasts an entryway with built-in storage, an open-concept kitchen, living and dining room with a center island, and a tucked-away laundry closet.
The principal suite includes a walk-in closet with a sliding barn door, plus an ensuite bathroom with a spa-like shower. Depending on the buyers’ needs, one of the secondary bedrooms could be used as a flex space for a home office, fitness studio or children’s playroom.
Prior to the start of construction in late 2021, buyers will be able to personalize their floorplans, finishes and options. Tesla-manufactured upgrades such as solar panels, EV home charging stations and battery packs will be available. Select homes will also come with a 700-square-foot accessory dwelling unit (ADU) featuring two bedrooms and a bathroom, bumping up the cost to $850,000.
According to Palari Group’s website, the homes will offer “near zero waste” and “net zero energy.” Buyers are able to reserve a 3D-printed home in the community by forking over a $1,000 fully-refundable deposit by credit card or Bitcoin via the developer’s website.
Mighty Buildings will ship the 3D-printed components, consisting of interior and exterior walls, from its Oakland production facility. Palari Group will be responsible for pouring each home’s foundation and conducting the onsite assembly.
In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Palari Group CEO Basil Starr estimated that the homes would take one month to install. The entire project could be completed within a year and a half — a significantly shorter timeline than traditional construction methods.
