For Toronto history buffs and local architecture lovers, new interior photos have been spotted online for one of the city’s oldest homes, 171 Old Forest Hill Road.
A Houssmax virtual tour recently surfaced for the single-family home located in Toronto’s Forest Hill North community. At the time of publishing, the home is currently not listed on MLS and appears to have been sold off-market.
Known as the William Moore House, the home dates back to the 1800s and is considered one of the oldest residences in the city.
According to the Ontario Heritage Act Register, the William Moore House began construction in the mid-1820s, and finished its build in 1835. Captain William Moore, a farmer and veteran of the War of 1812, bought the land in 1815. He and his wife, Sarah Harrison, raised their eight children in the home, where three generations of the Moore family later resided.
Past reporting on the property by The Globe and Mail explains that while some changes have been made over the year, many elements of the old home are still intact. A brick oven for bread-baking in the dining room fireplace and hand-blown glass windows are reportedly a few of the historical features included.
The most recent photos show that the current owners have continued to preserve much of the home’s historical roots along with making some modern updates. Chandeliers hang above pine floors next to crown moulding and picture frame windows are featured in most rooms. The lower level has a cozy living room with a sleeping area, laundry facilities and a walk-in wine cellar.
Data and floorplans from Houssmax show that 171 Old Forest Hill Road includes four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms over 5,984 square feet of living space. Veronika Goldberg-Vajda, a sales representative with Forest Hill Real Estate Brokerage, is the property’s listing agent.
