Union Village is a master-planned community that combines the small town charm and character of Unionville with the convenience and access of the City of Markham. The new development by Minto Communities and Metropia launched in February with strong interest from homebuyers looking for quality-built homes in an amenity-rich and family-friendly neighbourhood. The initial phase saw more than 330 homes sold over a four-day period, featuring a mix of single-family homes, back-to-back townhomes, rear-lane townhomes and traditional townhomes.

“The success of Union Village really speaks to the quality of the project at every facet,” said Peter Maleganovski, Director of Land Development at Minto Communities. “We knew designing a community in the centre of a municipality like Markham would demand excellence in design and expert planning for residents. We’re so glad purchasers have responded so positively to Union Village and are excited to release more residences in our later phases of launch.”

Union Village was designed to emphasize the beauty of its natural surroundings and create communal spaces for families with sprawling parks, welcoming streetscapes and neighbourhood landmarks including a preserved, century-old bur oak tree. The community consists of two parcels of development, split down the middle by Bruce Creek, which itself is being restored and included as part of an extensive pedestrian and cycling trail system. Within the community, residents will enjoy ample greenspaces, preserved wetlands, parks, ponds and pathways.

“Working on a site in central Markham, surrounded by such incredible and lush green space was a rare opportunity for us to work in such an established location,” said Howard Sokolowski, Chairman and CEO, Metropia. “The quality of the design, the easy connections to Markham, Unionville, and Toronto, and the integration of the outdoors all combined for one of the most successful launches we’ve ever been a part of.”

Situated at 16th Avenue and Kennedy Road, Union Village is within walking distance to Unionville, a charming heritage district dotted with boutique shops, cafes and recreational amenities. In addition to its prime location, Union Village boasts a stunning collection of homes that offer a variety of architectural options, fundamental feng shui principles, and green technology features.

When completed, the project will consist of 1,200 homes in a variety of design styles, including French, Second Empire, French Country, Period Revival/Tudor, Canadiana, Modern, and West Coast Contemporary. Inside, the homes range in size from 1,267 to 4,508 square feet and were designed with input from feng shui master, Paul Ng, to create harmonious living spaces with ideal energy flow. Sustainable features within the homes include LED lighting, water-efficient fixtures, low VOC paint, Green Label Plus-certified carpeting for indoor air quality, and conveniently placed conduits to support future EV charging and solar roof panels.
