551 10th Avenue Gotham

Extell Development’s rental tower at 543-551 10th Avenue has a ways to go before its 2016 completion date, but we stopped by the Hell’s Kitchen site anyway.

Located between West 40th and West 41st streets, the 600-unit development will have two swimming pools and a two-lane bowling alley, Extell’s chief executive Gary Barnett told the New York Times last April. SLCE is the architect of record for the project; foundations were poured in March 2013.

Extell took a 99-year ground lease on the site in August 2011 from the estate of Sol Goldman, one of the city’s largest landlords. Then, the developer plunked down $16.46 million for nearly 140,000 square feet in air rights from the neighboring Roman Catholic Church of Saint Raphael, The Real Deal reported. The rentals will cantilever over part of the church property at 502 West 41st Street.
