As the Boomer generation reaches retirement age, there is a growing need for more senior-living facilities across Canada. Therein lies the inspiration behind Harmony Village Sheppard, an urban-style community by City Core Developments and Fortress Real Developments that caters to the aging population.
Get this: in Ontario, the population of seniors aged 65 or older will more than double by 2036, rising from two million to more than four million. This will represent about 24 per cent of the province’s overall population.
With this in mind, Harmony Village has pulled out all the stops. It plans to build a 30,000 square foot indoor amenity space that will include an on-site beauty parlour, tea room, library, and a variety of fitness and ballroom classes.
Thanks to a partnership with St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux, the mixed-use development will also offer more than 100 wellness programs, from a 24-hour Emergency Response system to an on-site rehabilitation centre with a hydrotherapy pool.
In 2012, an online survey was conducted among Canadian residents over sixty years old. It revealed that 76 per cent of seniors value an independent lifestyle as they enter retirement. Couple this with the fact that 65 per cent of those surveyed believe there are few innovative and urban-style residences that meet their current needs.
Since this is one heck of a sought-after development, we recommend registering online ASAP. Want more Harmony Village? Check out Harmony Village Lake Simcoe, the developer’s other project in Barrie.
Available units range from 588 to 1,800 square feet and prices start from the mid $200,000s.
