Altree Developments is continuing to invest in Scarborough with its first addition to the residential landscape. Highland Commons is made up of two mid-rise buildings. Altree’s intent is to tie modern condominium living with the outdoors in a seamless way.

The two eight-storey buildings are found at the corner Military Trail and Kingston Road, close to one of Scarborough’s largest parks. Residents can take advantage of a naturally preserved ravine system that’s home to wildlife of all kinds, including deer and fish.

The front facade is open and bright, with many windows to take in the natural light. The back of the building offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

“We started with the idea of a high street or a series of individual fronts that create a cohesive whole,” said Sean Lawrence of Kohn Partnership Architects. “Opening the rear of the building to the natural tranquillity of the surroundings adds a unique aspect to modern condominium living.”

Altree has already made its presence known in the Highland Creek neighbourhood. In 2020 it acquired and rebranded the Highland Creek Plaza. Now known as the Shops at Highland Creek, the retail area is only a block away from the Commons.

“There’s a story to be told about the livability of Scarborough. We’ve spent a lot of time as a team discussing the importance of this community and what our investments can offer to it. I’m incredibly proud that Highland Commons is creating opportunities for people to understand the true essence of Highland Creek,” said Zev Mandelbaum, the founder of Altree Developments.

“From the gorgeous landscapes to its proximity to the university and the retail high street, the location of this project is special. We worked extensively to configure a wide variety of unit types to cater to a diversity of buyers.”

Highland Commons features 539 units ranging in size from studios to three bedrooms. Outdoor spaces for private use are ample, with balconies and terraces available. A total of 13 amenities are scattered throughout both buildings. A fitness centre, swimming pool, full-sized basketball court, ping-pong tables, billiards room, life-sized chess board and squash court are all available for use. Co-working spaces, a party room, and a rooftop overlooking the ravine add to the appeal.
