Two single-family homes dating back to the early 1900s could make way for a five-story apartment building in Hollywood’s history-laden Whitley Heights neighborhood.

Currently concealed behind tall hedges, the adjacent properties at 6555 and 6561 Franklin Street span 9,664 square feet. The proposed residence would contain 25 market-rate and three affordable apartments that would be set aside for extremely low income households.

Studio City-based developer The Ketter Group is behind the proposed project, which would offer studio, loft, one-bedroom and two-bedroom floorplans ranging from 191 to 1,017 square feet. Nearly all of the apartments would include private balconies of varying shapes and sizes.

A total of 17 at-grade vehicle parking spaces would be provided, in addition to a storage room that could accommodate up to 31 bicycles. The residential lobby would be situated next to a 428-square-foot rec room, and a lushly landscaped ‘backyard’ would be found on the second floor. A 1,224-square-foot rooftop deck would provide residents with additional space for outdoor entertaining.

Designed in-house by The Ketter Group, the building’s modern exterior would be clad in white and dark grey stucco, accented with large-format grey tile and prefinished woodgrain metal panels. The private balconies would feature metal guardrails, while the rooftop would tout tempered glass and metal railings to maximize views of the neighborhood.

Future residents of the development, named 6555 Franklin in supporting documents, would live one block away from a bustling stretch of Hollywood Boulevard. Nearby attractions include The Second City Hollywood, Hollywood Farmers’ Market, Hollywood & Highland shopping center, and Avalon Hollywood. There’s also easy access to public transportation with two Metro B Line stations within easy walking distance of the proposed apartment building.
