For the average Torontonian, the site of Pinnacle One Yonge is just another condominium replacing a former parking lot.

What they may not know is that it’s actually the site of what will become Canada’s tallest building. Rising 95 storeys above its prominent 1 Yonge Street address, SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge will surpass The One by Mizrahi Developments (currently under construction), which previously held the title as Canada’s future tallest building. At 313 metres (1,026.9 feet), it will also be 15 metres (49.2 feet) taller than First Canadian Place in the Financial District, which has been the country’s tallest skyscraper since 1975.

With an estimated completion date of late 2024, it will be awhile before SkyTower takes its place in the Toronto skyline. The building is part of a larger community that will include five towers — three residential and two offices — surrounding the landmark Toronto Star building.

The Prestige Condos at Pinnacle One Yonge is the first residential tower and is now under construction. When completed in 2022, the Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed tower will rise 65 storeys above the southeast corner of the site, fronting Freeland Street. It’s directly east of SkyTower and south of the third phase’s 80-storey residence.

Construction began in 2018 with the demolition of the parking lot and excavation of the pit. A crane was installed by the end of the year, and in 2019, work began on the project’s six-level underground garage.

Today, the massing for the expansive six-storey podium is complete and crews are now pouring the tower’s 15th floor. Glazing has been installed on much of the podium, revealing a dark green/grey window wall with dark mullions, while integrated balconies for podium suites are visible on the eastern facade.

On the southeast corner, steel and concrete columns frame a double-height entryway, and a staircase with temporary wood railings is also visible. Renderings for this corner show a glass-enclosed foyer with a large green wall, bold light fixtures and an exterior sign for the future onsite community centre. The podium is also expected to house several retail spaces.

Inside, Prestige will house 496 units, sized from 561 to 1,873 square feet. Floorplans are appointed by Tanner Hill and Associates and are available with one- to three-bedroom-plus-den layouts.

Amenities include a gym, spin studio, party room, dog wash station, outdoor walking track and barbecue area. Renderings also show spacious rooftop terraces with lounge seating and gardens.
