55C Condos is a 551-unit development coming soon to 55 Charles Street East in Bloor Yorkville. The project by MOD Developments celebrated a major milestone this week as the groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 19th — exactly one year from the date of the official launch. It was one of the first developments to break ground since the province eased lockdown measures and was able to successfully meet its pre-sale targets despite the setbacks from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic was difficult for all Canadians and businesses in every industry and it was no different for us at MOD,” said Noorez Lalani, President of MOD Developments. “However, I’m extremely proud of how our team came together and juggled both their family life, along with such a time-sensitive project to ensure we started building on schedule for our customers.”
“We are fortunate that the Province declared construction an essential service and that the City was committed to processing applications and permits as best as they could. We’ve reached this milestone with help from a lot of sources, including a terrific consultant team.”
Located in sought-after Bloor Yorkville, 55C is one of the last buildings to be constructed in the established neighbourhood along Charles Street. Bloor Yorkville’s renowned Mink Mile is a five-minute walk away and is dotted with gourmet restaurants including Sassafraz and PLANTA, world-class food emporiums like Eataly, and luxurious designer brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co.
Other nearby attractions and amenities include the Royal Ontario Museum, Whole Foods Market and the University of Toronto campus. Plus, with a Walk Score of 99 and a Transit Score of 97, residents of 55C will be within walking distance or a quick subway ride away from their destinations.
Designed by award-winning architectural firm architectsAlliance, 55C features a modern point tower with 551 units in a diverse mix of studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. The 48-storey structure boasts a dynamic facade that stands out from the surrounding glass condominiums with its unique dark tones and solid form.
“The design intent for 55C was to do a development that (in somewhat of a contradiction) stood out by being understated in its elegance, materiality and colour palette,” said Gary Switzer, CEO of MOD Developments. “In early discussions, we spoke in sartorial terms of how a building could be like bespoke tailoring.”
“Peter Clewes certainly rose to the occasion with his sophisticated massing of the podium and tower, his use of upgraded materials like porcelain panelling, curtain wall and stainless steel, and his integration of a dark colour palette for the façade and balconies.”
Inside, common areas and suites are lined with elegant interior finishes by Cecconi Simone. Over 20,000 square feet of amenities will be located on both the eighth floor and the rooftop, featuring a state-of–the-art fitness facilities, steam rooms, lounges, private dining rooms, kitchens and bars. The eight floor opens onto extensive roof gardens designed by landscape architect Janet Rosenberg Studio and sports abundant outdoor seating, tables, barbeques and gardens.
At the top of the building, the rooftop C Lounge houses a large party room with a full kitchen, dining area, seating areas, and outdoor terrace with barbeques, planters and comfortable furnishings. Other amenities include a pet spa, parcel room with refrigerated storage, and 24/7 concierge service.
Ranging in size from 224 to 1,006 square feet, available suites offer spacious, open-concept layouts with plenty of natural light.
