EVE Park by s2e Technologies blends nature, technology and architecture to create a ground-breaking, net-zero energy community in London, Ontario. Launching soon in the city’s Riverbend neighbourhood, the project’s forward-thinking approach is based on the developer’s vision for a green community that will foster sustainable transportation and eco-friendly lifestyles today and into the future.

“We are all acutely aware of the climate crisis and if we are going to do anything about climate change, it has to be today,” said Ashley Hammerbacher, EVE Park Project Team Lead, s2e Technologies. “We keep hearing that it must be too hard or too expensive. Those are misconceptions, and we’re tackling them with the support of partners — like Ellis Don, Gensler, and others — who are working with us to change perceptions of what is possible.”

EVE Park is situated within the greater West5 master-plan, one of North America’s largest net-zero energy communities, where solar panels adorn rooftops, running and biking clubs are abundant, and a network of footpaths weave through the neighbourhood. Its ideal location places it within steps of the Thames River Park and within proximity to golf courses, retail amenities and Highway 401.

“The vision behind EVE Park derived from wanting to make a deep impact, tackling three main components: energy, sustainable transportation, and sustainable lifestyles,” said Milfred Hammerbacher, co-founder of s2e Technologies. “For energy, the design is net-zero energy and energy efficient. Emissions-wise, we also wanted to address transportation.”

Known as the Electric Vehicle Enclave (EVE) Park, the 84-unit development aims to shift the typical residential design that’s dominated by long driveways, roads and garages, to a more pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood with shared spaces that instill a greater sense of community.

The master-plan has been designed with an autonomous vehicle future in mind with smaller streets that allow for more outdoor spaces like open parks, courtyards, playgrounds and walking trails. A major component of the landscape plan is the inclusion of lush perennial gardens, a small apple orchard, local and native plants, and edible plants including Anise Hyssop, Wild Rye, Purple Coneflower, elderberries and raspberries. Where needed, irrigation will use timers, sensors and drip technology to maximize efficiency.

Residents will have access to a planned Tesla leasing program, providing them with the exclusive opportunity to lease a Model 3 or Y. And to facilitate the switch to electric vehicles, EVE Park will offer to buy residents’ fossil fuel vehicles at market price. Those who prefer to sign up for carshare will have access to an electric vehicle car sharing program.

“We dismissed conventional suburban living, established a new living typology and issued ourselves a challenge to design a community where residents live in a park, not a parking lot,” said Carlos Fernández, co-founder of s2e Technologies.

“EVE Park integrates nature with technology, creates shared community spaces and wide-angle views, and has a forward-thinking approach to personal electric vehicle transportation.”

Designed by Gensler and Studio Dror, the circular design of the buildings allows main entrances to face one another across a piazza. Residents will enjoy wide, outdoor vistas through windowed facades along an expansive outer wall. Careful consideration was also put into the design of the parking towers, which are not only fully automated (reducing the parking lot feel), but also blend seamlessly into the residences’ architecture.

Each resident will be assigned a spot with the purchase of their unit and every parking space will be able to support electric vehicle charging. EVE Park will install a complimentary charger for any spot where requested by the owner within the first year after occupancy.
