Traffic flow is paramount in kitchen design. A poor layout can make mealtime a logistical nightmare, with family members bumping into one another and narrow doorways separating the cooking and eating areas.

When Andrea Colman, principal of Fine Finishes Design, first set eyes on this early-2000s kitchen with an alarming amount of brown ceramic tile, she knew that beyond updating the tired finishes, the floorplan needed to function for her clients and their three young children.

With a three-month renovation timeline and a budget of $80,000, Colman got to work designing the kitchen of their dreams, complete with ample storage, a fresh color palette and streamlined set-up.
