Minto Communities is celebrating a series of wins at this year’s Durham Region Homebuilders’ Association Awards (DHRBA). The event, which was hosted remotely on YouTube earlier this month, saw the Ontario home builder win multiple awards for its Ivy Ridge development in Whitby. In addition to the development awards, Minto was named Green Builder of the Year and received the Outstanding Achievement Award in Corporate Citizenship.
Located at the corner of Rossland Road and Thickson Road, Ivy Ridge is a master-planned community of singles and townhomes backing onto Whitby’s beautiful Pringle Creek. The development has been a success with homebuyers for its collection of thoughtfully-designed homes and spacious layouts. The Windsor Corner, Winchester and Wentworth received awards of excellence in their respective categories including Back-to-back Townhomes, Single Home from 2,001 to 3,000 square feet, and Single Home from 3,001 to 4,000 square feet.
“We pride ourselves on not just building great homes, but great relationships with homeowners and thriving communities,” said Troy Dosman, Vice-President, Construction Operations, Minto Communities. “That’s why we are so honoured to be recognized by the Durham Region Homebuilders’ Association Awards for our Ivy Ridge community in Whitby, as the Green Builder of the Year, and as an outstanding Corporate Citizen.”
As the Green Builder of the Year, Minto Communities met and exceeded criteria surrounding consumer education, environmentally-friendly building designs and techniques, leadership in advancing green building awareness, leading-edge waste management strategies, community service and support of industry.
As a winner in the Outstanding Achievement, Corporate Citizenship category, Minto Communities demonstrated excellence in charitable giving, community partnerships and work-life balance for employees. The developer’s initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic is just one example of its community involvement. Since March, Minto Communities has contributed by:
- Donating to non-profit agencies providing invaluable services to vulnerable populations with a focus on access to food, including Parkdale Food Bank, the Community Food Table, the Daily Bread Food Bank, and the Yonge Street Mission via the #YSMRelay.
- Provided PPE equipment and lunches for frontline workers at the Unionville Home Society, a long-term care facility in Markham.
- Supported small businesses throughout the GTA where Minto Communities builds with gift card purchases for homeowners closing on their properties within the next few months.
- Championed local journalism by sponsoring the summer edition of the West End Phoenix, a grassroots community newspaper in Parkdale, Toronto.
The Durham Region Homebuilders’ Association Awards follow Minto’s eight nominations for the upcoming BILD Awards, which recognize excellence and innovation in design, construction, sales and marketing of new homes in the Greater Toronto Area. Those nominations include Best Customer Care and Green Builder of the Year, as well as several nods for its latest downtown projects, 123 Portland in Toronto’s Fashion District and The Saint, located near the city’s renowned St. Lawrence Market. These developments received nominations for Best Suite Design, Best Short Video and Best Sales Team. 123 Portland also received a nomination for Best Mid/High Rise Brochure.
“No matter where we build, we pursue the same principles,” said David Robins, Division President, Minto Communities. “It’s about delivering quality, sustainable homes and communities where our environmental impact and the customer experience are always top of mind. It’s rewarding to see our hard work and efforts recognized across the GTA.”
