Toronto’s Entertainment District has been bustling with construction activity over the past decade with many high-rise condominiums replacing bars, clubs and beautiful old buildings. Fortunately there are some new developments that have made an effort to preserve the area’s historical character by incorporating heritage buildings and facades into their plans. King Blue Condos by Greenland Group (Canada) is doing just that. The two-tower residence is located at King Street West and Blue Jays Way and incorporates the historic Westinghouse Building’s facade on its northwest corner.

Construction on the project commenced in 2015 and though it has encountered delays, King Blue Condos is now preparing to welcome its first few residents. Recent photos released by the developer give a peek of the open layouts and modern finishes of some of the suites.

In total, the community consists of over 900 suites split within two towers rising 44- and 48-storeys, designed by Page + Steele IBI Group Architects. Residents have access to a wealth of amenities designed as extensions to their suites, including a landscaped rooftop terrace with waterfalls, firepits and a swimming pool with a bar.

Outside, crews are working on the exterior of the building and jersey barriers are still in place to separate vehicles from the temporary sidewalks around the site. Fencing has also been installed in the courtyard area to create a path for homeowners to enter the building for their PDI appointments.

The centrepiece of the project is the historic Canadian Westinghouse Building which dates back to the 1920s. The restored facade was unveiled in 2018 with brand new windows, lighting and revitalized brick cladding. It forms part of the multi-storey podium which houses the project’s amenities and conference facilities.
