Home renovations are often focused on maximizing returns. And while the payoff can be significant, sometimes the best reward of all is simply enjoying your newly upgraded home. Who needs to go out to a bar when your kitchen is the swankiest spot in town?

Condo owners Romey and Michelle Halabi turned to interior designer Karin Bennett to lead the full-gut renovation of their two-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse in Toronto’s trendy King West neighborhood. The couple has lived in the building for 15 years — they first owned a condo on a lower floor before graduating to the coveted penthouse level.

Romey is a licensed broker and the owner of Toronto Realty Boutique, and knew the builder basic space was in need of a redesign. Bennett helped her clients achieve their dream of an elegant, yet edgy penthouse that, in their words, “really looked like a penthouse,” complete with custom features and high-end finishes. Here Bennett takes us on a tour of the open-concept kitchen, living and dining space, as well as the guest bathroom.
