Now under construction in Toronto’s desirable Yorkville area, 8 Cumberland held an official groundbreaking ceremony this week marking a major milestone for the development. The 371-unit residence is being developed in partnership between Great Gulf and Phantom Developments and will be situated on prime real estate at the northwest corner of Cumberland Avenue and Yonge Street.

“8 Cumberland will create a new gateway to the Yorkville District. Our commitment to the neighbourhood’s revitalization includes a 36-storey condo tower at 18 Yorkville, the iconic 76-storey condo tower at One Bloor east and this 51-storey condo development all within a block radius,” said Niall Collins, President of Residential at Great Gulf. “I would like to thank our partners Phantom Developments, The Kadima Group and MM Realty Ventures Inc. for sharing our vision in developing this project.”

Designed by the award-winning firm Architects Alliance, the high-rise tower boasts a sleek facade characterized by ribbons of gleaming steel and luminous glass. The project blends old with new and pays homage to the neighbourhood’s past by integrating a century-old brick Victorian into its podium. The heritage building dates back to the late nineteenth century but will be revitalized and house retail spaces on the first and second floors.

Inside, homeowners and guests are greeted with contemporary spaces designed by the renowned design firm, Tomas Pearce. The units range in size from 468 square feet to 1,845 square feet and feature open-concept layouts and stunning panoramic city views.
