There are posher neighbourhoods, and there are more affordable ones, too, but Mount Pleasant East is Vancouver’s most sought after for online house hunters, says property portal REW.ca.

In an infographic originally published in the Vancouver Courier, REW identifies Mount Pleasant East as “Vancouver’s most popular neighbourhood.”

Mount Pleasant East earned the title based on the average page views racked up per listing on REW, which boasts upward of 2.5 million total visitors each month.

Overall, REW says interest in Vancouver properties has inched up 3 per cent annually, when looking at the first half of 2017 compared to that same period this year.

In terms of the most popular type of home, searchers had the strongest interest in a two-bedroom condo priced between $1.25 million and $1.5 million.

List prices for condos that appear on REW.ca surged 24 per cent on a year-over-year basis, overshadowing a modest 3-per-cent rise on the detached segment.

East Vancouver, which includes Mount Pleasant East, remains considerably more affordable than its western counterpart, a recent study from another real estate portal, Zoocasa, suggests.

The benchmark price of a Vancouver East apartment was $569,300, shy of the West Vancouver benchmark of $825,000, according to the Zoocasa study based on August numbers.

However, neither side of the city is affordable for the typical household, Zoocasa notes.
