The corner of Sheppard Avenue East and Don Mills Road in North York looked a lot different just eight short years ago. Since launching in 2010, Emerald City, envisioned by Elad Canada, has transformed the busy intersection into a vibrant master-planned community with nine new residential buildings, retail spaces, colourful public art by Canadian novelist and visual artist Douglas Coupland, and a state-of-the-art community centre which features an aquatic centre with an outdoor pool.

Block A, situated on the north end of the community, was the first phase of Emerald City and is already sold out and fully occupied. Block B is directly south of Block A, and is well underway with The Colours, which is complete and fully occupied. Both Fifth on the Park and The Park Club Condos are sold out and under construction.

The project is now in its final phase (Block C) after the launch of Lumina at Emerald City in January. To mark the milestone, Elad Canada hosted an official groundbreaking ceremony last week with several Elad Canada executives, including Rafael Lazer, CEO, Netanel Ben-Or, Executive Vice President Development & Business Development, Dror Duchovny, VP Marketing and Business Development, and Hanan Amor, Director of Development and Construction. Also present were Bruce Sonnenberg, Vice President and District Manager, PCL Construction Canada Inc., Len Abelman, Principle at WZMH Architects, and Barbara Lawlor, the President and CEO of Baker Real Estate.

Lumina is located on the southernmost point of Emerald City and shares Block C with The Point and The Peak Condos. Designed by WZMH Architects, the modern mid-rise residence consists of two separate volumes — a 13-storey main tower and seven-storey Oasis Suites.

Characterized by a sleek and contemporary facade, Lumina boasts a timeless exterior design that blends well within the community and creates a harmonious streetscape. Exterior highlights include large window walls, spandrel glass, expansive balconies and red brick accents on the podium level. At the base of the podium will be extensive retail space with frontage along Don Mills Road.

Inside, Lumina features an array of meticulously designed one- and two-bedroom suites with flex options and family-friendly three-bedroom units. Designed by Tanner Hill and Associates, each suite offers spacious open-concept layouts with luxurious features, elegant finishes and incredible value with starting prices in the high-$300,000s.

Shared amenities located in The Peak and The Point Condos, include a theatre room, multipurpose room with common lounge and billiard table for entertaining, landscaped outdoor terrace, a fully equipped fitness centre with a yoga studio, and an indoor swimming pool with an adjacent hot tub. Residents will also enjoy convenient concierge service, a family play lounge and a fully-furnished guest suite for overnight visitors.

Fairview Mall is just moments away from Emerald City. With over 160 stores and services, including Hudson’s Bay, H&M and an Apple Store, the expansive retail centre is sure to be a popular spot for residents of Emerald City. Plus, with close proximity to the Don Mills subway station and major thoroughfares like Sheppard Avenue, the DVP and Highway 404, Lumina is ideal for those who have to commute to downtown Toronto and other areas of the GTA.

Closer to home, residents of Lumina will be steps away from the Parkway Forest Community Centre. The state-of-the-art facility was officially opened last summer with Toronto Mayor John Tory in attendance and boasts a full-size gymnasium, weight room, dance studios, running track, craft rooms, a commercial teaching kitchen, green roof and a YMCA-run daycare centre. The complex also features a 5,000-square-foot aquatic centre and public outdoor pool.

Lumina provides the perfect finishing touch to the family-friendly enclave that Elad Canada envisioned for the site over a decade ago. To be part of this sought-after community, be sure to register online and visit the presentation centre on Sheppard Avenue, just east of Don Mills Road. Hours are Monday to Thursday from 11am to 6pm and weekends from 12pm to 5pm.
