“It’s a bit of a [misapprehension] that when designers come in, we insist you replace all of your furniture to get a fresh feel,” says interior designer Karen Dunn. “We welcome the idea of incorporating pieces that you already have into a new design.”

Dunn teamed up with Claire Jefford, owner and certified interior decorator at Creating Contrasts Designs, for a redesign of their client’s main floor in Burlington, Ontario. While the eat-in kitchen is sparkling new, the clients opted to keep some of their existing furniture and decor in the living room, entryway and powder room. The result is a home adorned with traditional-style treasures, custom built-ins and beautiful crown moulding.
