Toronto’s waterfront community continues to transform with the unveiling of Lakeside Residences by Greenland Group Canada. The 3.85-acre master-planned community is situated on one of the largest remaining parcels of land in Toronto’s East Bayfront and will consist of seven towers, upwards of 2,000 residential units and over 30,000 square feet of retail space.

The ambitious project is Greenland Group’s second residential development in Toronto following the successful launch of King Blue Condos, now under construction on King Street West and Blue Jays Way. Since its founding in 1992, the Fortune 500 company has become a leader in real estate development and specializes in building master planned communities, large urban complexes, business districts and landmark towers in urban centres around the globe.

Located at 215 Lake Shore Boulevard East, Lakeside Residences is the latest landmark project to be a part of the revitalization of the Toronto waterfront. Conceived as one of Canada’s most exciting urban renewal projects, Waterfront Toronto and its partners are transforming the East Bayfront area with investments in infrastructure, public spaces and community facilities. The site of Lakeside Residences is also next door to the recently announced ‘smart cities’ neighbourhood by Google’s Sidewalk Labs.

“We’re excited to be a part of Toronto’s emerging waterfront neighbourhood,” says Henry Cao, President of Greenland Group Canada. “Our experience in developing iconic waterfront districts around the world will allow us to transform Lakeside into one of the city’s most sought-after residential communities.”

Designed by internationally-recognized architecture firm Hariri Pontarini, the two main 39- and 49-storey towers draw inspiration from the project’s waterfront location. The towers are reminiscent of the two sails on a sailboat working together, with massing that appears to catch the wind and curved forms creating gentle arcs on the facades. Fritted glass balconies that taper and flare add further visual interest to the building’s sculptural silhouette while illuminating the tower’s edge and reflecting the water below.

“Greenland Group Canada held an international design competition for the project and we were instantly intrigued,” says David Pontarini, Founding Partner at Hariri Pontarini Architects. “Greenland has demonstrated an ambition to do something of significance and quality on the Toronto Waterfront and Hariri Pontarini Architects is excited to be a part of it.”

At the base of the towers is an exterior courtyard designed by award-winning landscape architecture and urban design firm Janet Rosenberg & Studio Inc. The team’s goal was to transform exterior spaces into an urban backyard with an emphasis on walkability, leisure, parklands and easy access to cafes and retail amenities.

Inside, Greenland Group partnered with renowned interior design firm Cecconi Simone. Suites are large and spacious and are well-appointed with the latest features and finishes. The team also designed the project’s luxury amenities which include a welcoming lobby and an amenity area mid-way up the tower with spectacular city views.
