Seattle-based Zillow is exploring adding Canadian listings to its popular real estate search site.
Zillow spokesperson Emily Heffter confirmed to BuzzBuzzNews that the company was “looking into adding Canadian listings” but does not have anything to announce at this point.
“We know that many buyers in the U.S. are interested in purchasing Canadian property, so we are looking into adding Canadian listings. We currently have no plans to build a Canadian version of Zillow,” Heffter says in an email statement.
Zillow Group, which owns the Zillow brand, recently filed paperwork to lobby the Canadian government. According to the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada, the company is an active lobbyist and is represented by Alex Maheu, a consultant with Summa Strategies.
Sources with knowledge of the matter confirm that Zillow executive Errol Samuelson has been having exploration conversations in Ottawa about adding Canadian listings to the site.
Launched in 2006, Zillow has a database of over 110 million US homes, according to its site.
BuzzBuzzNews will continue to monitor Zillow’s activities in Canada and report on updates as they become available.
