In 2014, Bridgit co-founders Mallorie Brodie and Lauren Lake launched an app aimed at improving efficiency in the construction industry — no easy task in a field that’s been notoriously slow to embrace change. Their product, known as Closeout, sought to transform the disorderly and chaotic nature of tracking deficiencies on a job site, which often involved sticky notes and outdated spreadsheets.

Since that time, Bridgit has claimed top honors at Google Demo Day, expanded into the US market and raised a $2.2 million seed round. What’s next for the Kitchener, Ontario-based startup? A new data-driven feature called Project Insights that does the number crunching for you. It provides an easy-to-understand overview of a project’s progress, alerts you to overdue tasks and monitors subcontractor productivity.

“This is a game-changer for Bridgit Closeout. Our users have always had access to reports that filter and summarize the tasks on site. Project Insights is different; it calculates high-level progress metrics that give quick insight about a project’s status and team performance,” explains Mallorie Brodie, Bridgit co-founder & CEO.

Project Insights allows developers and general contractors to identify bottlenecks that slow projects down and cost inordinate amounts of money. If you feel a contractor is holding you back, you can present them with week-over-week performance metrics. It’s not your word against theirs — the data speaks for itself. Additionally, users are able to quickly share progress with stakeholders, creating more transparency and accountability.

“It makes site data more organized and easier to read,” says Bailey Raymond, a deficiency coordinator for Buttcon Limited who participated in beta testing for Project Insights. “Also, being able to look back several weeks and see the progress is great. Upper management loves it as well. We have been looking forward to this for a while, and I’m glad we can now put it to use.”

Bridgit Closeout users are able to access Project Insights through the company’s web application. Brodie promises the product will only get better with time. “We plan to grow the feature further, using feedback and suggestions from our users,” she says.
