This San Francisco mansion up for rent on Craigslist costs $25,000 a month

Are you secretly the Uncle Scrooge of your friend group? Do you have three nephews inexplicably named Huey, Duey and Luey, and do your hobbies include swimming in a vault filled with cold hard cash? Then, congrats! You might be able to afford to rent this $25,000 a month mansion in San Francisco!

This six bedroom, five and a half bath goliath of a mansion is located in the swanky Cow Hollow neighborhood, adjacent to the similarly wealthy Pacific Heights. Curbed SF sleuthed out the home’s address, 2715 Scott Street, a 1912 single-family home with a lot size of 4,791 square feet.

Touted as an “extravagant house” with “old-world opulence meets modern amenities,” the mansion has a slew of upsides for a renter. It’s pet friendly, has an onsite washer and dryer, and an attached two-car garage. But those would be considered basics by the casual Craigslist peruser. 2715 Scott Street also boasts a Sonos music system accessible from every room, high ceilings, a front, side and top deck, as well as a larger-than-your-average-San Francisco kitchen with granite countertops and a matching backsplash to boot.

According to Zumper, the average monthly rent for a one bedroom apartment in San Francisco is $3,370 — the highest in the nation. Let’s say you decide to divvy the $25,000 a month rent check among six people, would it then be considered affordable by Bay Area standards? Not so much. Each individual would have to fork over $4,166.66 per month. So, unless you’re secretly a tech billionaire or the heir to a family fortune, this Craigslist post is a pipe dream for us Bay Area plebeians who live in a city where, according to the Department of Numbers, the median income was $88,518 in 2015.
