If you’ve walked along downtown Ottawa’s Sparks Street pedestrian mall recently, you will have noticed a new addition at 101 Queen Street. That’s because the site of reResidences by Ashcroft Homes is now equipped with a tower crane. Following the completion of the five-and-a-half level underground parking garage, the massive crane arrived on July 15th, in several pieces, spread across 12 flatbed trailer trucks. Using a 350 tonne mobile crane, crews pieced it together in sections starting with the tower mast, turntable, operator cab and finally the jib. At this point, the crane stands at a height of 260 feet, but will eventually reach 330 feet as the building progresses.


Now that the crane is installed, it won’t be long before we see the structure start to rise above the neighbourhood. When completed in 2019, reResidences will consist of an 18-storey tower on Queen Street and a six-storey residence fronting Sparks Street, linked by a landscaped courtyard in between.


Designed by Ottawa-based Roderick Lahey Architect Inc., the exterior is characterized by clean lines and modern glass, but also gives a nod to the area’s past by integrating the historic facade at 106-116 Sparks Street. Originally built in the 1870s, the heritage facade was disassembled brick-by-brick and is currently being preserved and restored.

Inside, reResidences will house 91 spacious condominium suites and 110 luxury rental units with open-concept layouts, sweeping views, and designer features and finishes.
