Renowned for its soaring skyscrapers and bustling streetscape, the island of Manhattan is one of the world’s most exciting and dynamic urban landscape. However, this concrete jungle is also known for its acres of green spaces, winding paths and world famous Central Park. City dwellers love their outdoor spaces, and that’s exactly what Extell Development Company hopes will attract new homebuyers to its One Manhattan Square project on the Lower East Side.

The gleaming 80-storey tower is already well under construction, and once complete, will boast a wealth of outdoor amenities designed by internationally-acclaimed landscape architectural firm, West 8. Led by Principal Architect Adriaan Geuze, the Rotterdam-based firm was tasked with designing 45,000 square feet of exterior waterfront amenities at One Manhattan Square.

“We had the luck of being involved in creating one of the largest private gardens in New York,” says Geuze. “We knew immediately that this would be a unique project.”

Inspired by squares, parks and urban sanctuaries around the world, West 8 has created a sprawling, year-round, outdoor oasis designed for residents to relax, work, socialize and play. Geuze’s vision starts at the entrance, where residents and visitors are welcomed by a lush topiary garden and a meandering path through a sumach garden.

Also within the development is a birch garden where daylight filters through the branches creating striking shadows. An adult treehouse is set amid hedges and azaleas, providing the perfect spot to spend time with friends and family. The outdoor amenities aren’t just for adults — one of the thematic gardens is a playground inspired by New York City, where children can walk atop bridges connecting Brooklyn with Manhattan.

Other outdoor amenities include a covered dog run, social courtyards, relaxation lawns, fire pits, outdoor kitchen and dining areas, a tea pavilion, and stargazing observatory.

Priced from $1.17 million, the suites at One Manhattan Square boast spacious layouts with panoramic skyline views and premium custom finishes. Prospective homebuyers will have a variety of floorplans to choose from, including thoughtfully-designed one bedroom suites and expansive three bedrooms with plenty of natural light and designer finishes. Standard features in all suites include five inch stained oak floors, imported stone, custom kitchen cabinetry, and a Miele premium appliance package.
